Gary MacDonald, Director of Engineering
In a career spanning over 20 years, Gary MacDonald has held leadership roles in organizations large and small while developing innovative technology to address various organizational, client, and guest needs. Gary comes to Level 11 from The Walt Disney Company where he led several highly successful and high profile product launches at Disney Interactive, Disney Consumer Products, Disney/ABC Television Group, and Imagineering Research & Development. He has held technical leadership roles in large companies such as Lotus, Microsoft, and Yahoo while having also spent time in the startup world. He has developed software across a distinctly broad range of areas including firmware and embedded Linux, enterprise and at-scale hardware, desktop computers of all varieties, network computers (remember those?), browser-based software, and more recently, mobile and VR/AR platforms.
Gary seeks to stretch the limits of technology and catalyze the imagination of the people who use it. Creating dazzling technology is only half the equation; the other half is empowering those who wield it. Whether that be internally within an organization, in the relationship with a client, or in the experience that we together deliver to a guest, that is the true power of an innovative solution.
In the non-digital world, Gary has enjoyed a competitive skydiving career almost as long as his professional one. He holds numerous medals from US National Championships and has also competed as a member of the US World Cup Skydiving Team. When not clicking mice or packing parachutes, Gary loves to spend time in the outdoors with his wife and two children on bikes, snowboards, and sometimes just their feet.
